Get involved as a volunteer. You
will:

Docent
FOPCON docents are trained volunteers who lead school-group
tours on weekdays from September through May. Docent training
classes are scheduled twice a year. As a docent you will focus
on the conservatory’s rain forest and desert collections
and explain how these plants have adapted to very different
ecosystems.
Time Commitment:
2 hours a month, or more.
Dates and times vary depending on
when school tours are scheduled.

Weekend Docent
Weekend Docents, also known as plant interpreters, serve as hosts/hostesses on weekends at the Conservatory from September through May. As a plant interpreter, you greet visitors and answer questions about the permanent collections and seasonal displays. Training classes are scheduled twice a year.
Time Commitment:
2 hours a month or more on Saturday or Sunday

Visitors Services Volunteer
The Visitor Services Volunteer is an essential position and is often the first contact a member of the public has with the Oak Park Conservatory. The Visitor Services volunteer establishes a friendly, welcoming environment for visitors and informs them of available educational and information materials.
Time Commitment:
2 hours a month or more on Tuesday through Sunday.

Special Events Volunteer
FOPCON sponsors a wide range of one
day or evening special events throughout
the year such as seasonal flower
show openings, an herb sale, garden
walk, plant exchange, and guided
tours to sites of botanical interest.
Help is needed to plan and host
each event.
Time Commitment:
Varies with each
event depending on the scope of the
event

Committee Member
We need volunteer committee members to work on membership,
recruitment, education, fund raising, staffing, and public
relations. If you have interest or a background in any of
these areas, we need you.
Time Commitment:
Varies with each committee depending on the role of the committee.

Herb Grower Volunteer
Assist in seeding, potting, and nurturing
hundreds of herb plants to be sold
at the Annual Herb Sale in May.
Time Commitment:
Tuesdays thru Saturdays during the months of February through
April

Horticulture Volunteer
Interested gardeners will learn many
new skills while involved in growing
and nurturing a wide range of plants
in our Conservatory setting.
Time Commitment:
Monday through Friday
from 9am to Noon or 1pm to 4pm.
