Hundreds of area youth skaters to bring their skills to the ice for enjoyment of residents

A tradition since 1967, the Park District of Oak Park’s annual Ice Show is scheduled to run Friday, March 14 through Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Ridgeland Common's Paul Hruby Ice Arena, located at 415 W. Lake Street in Oak Park. More than 300 area youth are expected to participate in this year’s Ice Show, called "Magic Carpet Ride.” Participants range in age from 4 to 18, and include both novices on the ice as well as experienced performers. Showtimes are scheduled for Friday, March 14 at 7pm, Saturday, March 15 at 6pm and Sunday, March 16 at 3pm.

“The skaters who participate in the Ice Show all work incredibly hard at their performances, and it’s so much fun to watch,” notes Jennifer Berni, Assistant Manager of Revenue Facilities at the Park District of Oak Park. “Every year, we have an audience full of parents, friends, family members and the general public, because it’s always such an entertaining show.”

The performances feature groups of Learn-To-Skate School students skating to choreographed dances set to music in front of an elaborate, elegant and large-scaled theatrical set. Skaters in their senior year of high school, as well as other advanced skaters, also perform individual choreographed solos on the ice.

The public is invited to the performances all weekend long. Tickets are currently on sale at a discounted pre-show price at Ridgeland Common for the Park District of Oak Park’s 40th Annual Ice Show. Ticket prices through March 14 are $7 for general admission adults, $6 for children under 62 and older adults aged 65 and up, and $9 for reserved seating. Starting March 14, ticket prices increase by $1 each. For more information, please contact Ridgeland Common at (708) 848-9661.
