Ridgeland Common
An Indoor Ice Arena, Outdoor Swimming Pool and Park Site

Project Description
In January 2007, a request for proposals was mailed to approximately 14 architectural and engineering firms to prepare a comprehensive study of existing conditions at Ridgeland Common, the Park District’s “flagship” recreation center. Ridgeland Common features an indoor ice rink with common areas, registration and staff support offices, programming room, an outdoor swimming pool and a 6 acre park site with sports fields, sled hill and a dog park. The scope of work includes a comprehensive physical evaluation and analysis of the building systems related to safety, security, and code compliance including an assessment of (but not limited to) the current conditions of all of the following systems.

Project Schedule

The final project schedule will be determined in part through consultation with the Provider of Services. The Park District estimates a schedule similar to the following with project duration of 3-4 months:

Thompson Dyke & Associates has been contracted to complete the Ridgeland Common Existing Conditions Study. A Community Meeting was held on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 to explain the process that the team of experts, put together by Thompson Dyke & Associates, will go through to complete this study. A fact sheet was distributed at this meeting as well as a questionnaire (in PDF format) which was available at this website for residents to complete through March 16, 2007. (Results of the questionnaire). A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) sheet has also been developed regarding this project. On Wednesday, March 7, 2007, a focus group was held with representatives from various Ridgeland Common user groups and staff to collect input regarding current conditions of the facility. (focus group meeting notes) Meetings with special user groups were also held on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, to collect further input. (special user groups meeting notes) A joint meeting of the Park Board and Park District Citizen Committee was held on Thursday, May 10, 2007, at the Oak Park Conservatory at which Thompson Dyke presented a preliminary report. This meeting was open to the public however no public comment was accepted. A community meeting was held on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 to present the preliminary findings to residents and gather public comments.

The Board of Park Commissioners accepted the following reports at the June 21, 2007 Regular Park Board Meeting submitted by Thompson Dyke & Associates regarding the Ridgeland Common Existing Conditions Study.
