Fox Park Site Master Plan Development
After a lengthy planning process which included a great deal of community input, a site master plan for Fox Park has been developed and was accepted by the Board of Park Commissioners at the Regular Park Board Meeting on Thursday, January 18, 2007. The planning process was initiated with focus groups held on September 19, 2006 to jointly collect information regarding safety and security, buildings and grounds, passive space, sports and creative play for both Longfellow and Fox Parks. Focus groups were also held with District 97 representatives and Park District staff (focus group comments). Landscape architects from Planning Resources, Inc, prepared and distributed a site analysis and images of existing site conditions at Fox Park.

The first community meeting to gather information regarding the current and future use of Fox Park was held Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 7pm at Fox Center, 610 S. Oak Park Avenue (meeting comments). There was a questionnaire distributed at this meeting (questionnaire results). A second community meeting was held on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at 7pm to present and discuss 3 park concepts (meeting comments).

With the review of these 3 concepts and the gathering of additional input from the participants of the second community meeting, a draft concept recommendation was developed. (below) Comments regarding this recommendation were welcomed through Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 5pm.

Draft Concept Recommendation

The 3 initial park concepts and the draft concept recommendation were presented to the Park Board and the Park District Citizen Committee at the Committee of the Whole Meeting on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 7:30pm at Fox Center, 640 S. Oak Park Avenue. The Park Board accepted the final plan (below) at the Regular Park Board Meeting on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at 7:30pm at the Hedges Administrative Center, 218 Madison. Public comment was taken at this meeting.
