Shaping the Future of Oak Park Parks

For information on the construction at Field Park, please view the Field Park Current Projects page. Below is information on how the site plan was developed for Field Park.

Field Center Park Site Master Plan Development
Currently work has been completed to develop a site master plan for Field Center Park. Focus groups were held in mid-February to collect information on safety and security, buildings and grounds, passive space, sports and creative play. Focus groups were also held with Mann School staff and PTO and Park District staff (focus groups minutes). The first community meeting (Community Meeting #1 notes) to gather information regarding the current and future use of Field Center Park was held on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at 7pm at Field Center. A survey was distributed at this meeting to collect input from participants. Residents are invited to complete this survey even if they did not attend the March 1, 2006 meeting. A second community meeting (Community Meeting #2 notes) was held on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 to present 4 park concepts.

A site plan recommendation (see below) was presented to the Park Board at the Committee of the Whole Meeting on Thursday, May 4, 2006 at 7:30pm at the Oak Park Conservatory. The Park Board accepted this plan at the Regular Park Board Meeting on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at the Hedges Administration Center, 218 Madison.

On Thursday, October 26, 2006 the Park District was notified by Governor Blagojevich's Office that we will receive an Open Space and Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for the development of Field Park in the amount of $399,000 (more information).

Due to the awarding of the IDNR grant, the renovation of Field Park, scheduled for summer and fall 2007, will be expansive. A new baseball field will be added in the southwest corner of the park to replace the existing field, as well as a new full size soccer field and a new playground for ages 5 and up. The path will be relocated to the west side of the site connecting the north and south ends and passing by a small shelter/picnic area and a bocce ball court. A new vehicular drop off will be added on the west side as well as bike racks, drinking fountains, benches and landscaping. Start date for this project is July 9, 2007.

The Park District of Oak Park values public input and feedback. To provide input or for further information, please contact Diane Stanke at (708) 725-2022 or dianes@oakparkparks.com.
