Shaping the Future of Oak Park Parks
For information on construction at Carroll Park, please view the Carroll Park Current Projects page. Below is information on how the site plan was developed for Carroll Park.
Carroll Center Park Site Master
Plan Development
Development of a site master plan for Carroll Park has been
completed. Focus groups regarding safety & security,
buildings
& grounds, sports, passive space and creative play (see
focus groups notes) were held on September 28, 2005.
On October 5, 2005, a community meeting (see
community meeting notes) was held to collect further
community input. Information from these meetings along
with data from the newly adopted Parks & Recreation
Comprehensive Plan were considered in the development
of 6 site plan concepts. Presentations of these concepts
were made at a second community meeting (see
second community meeting notes) held on November
2, 2005 as well as to the Park Board of Commissioners
and the Park District Citizen Committee on November 3,
2005. You can view these concepts below.
The a final recommendation by Altamanu was presented to
the Park Board at the Committee of the Whole Meeting on
Thursday, December 1, 2005 at 7:30pm at the Oak Park Conservatory,
(see
jpg image of final recommendation). The final plan
was formally accepted at the Regular Park Board Meeting
on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at 7:30 pm at the Hedges
Administration Building, 218 Madison. Both meetings were
open to the public.
The first phase of renovation of Carroll Park is slated to begin in early June 2007. Park improvements will include a new playground area for ages 5 and up, a new path from the Harvard Street entrance leading to the playground, and new lighting and landscaping. This project is in coordination with the Village of Oak Park's water main replacement project on south Kenilworth Avenue from Roosevelt Road to Harvard Street.
