The Field Park Project is proceeding very well at Field Park/Mann
School Grounds. The shelter/gazebo has been installed,
the walkway lighting and grading is continuing. This
week additional subsurface concrete is being removed. Next week
the concrete work for the playground curbing, splash
pad and walks will begin. The contractor expects to be receiving
the playground equipment in the next week and installation
will begin shortly thereafter.
Updated July 20, 2007
The Park District of Oak Park received notification of
approval yesterday from the Illinois Department of Natural
Resources (IDNR) for the revised Master Plan for Field Park Improvements The
revised plan was submitted to IDNR earlier in the week
for review upon unanimous approval by the Park District
Board of Commissioners at the regular Park Board Meeting held
on Tuesday, July 17 at Mann School.Upon receipt of IDNR
authorization to proceed, construction at Field Park
has resumed. (See complete press release)
The revisions to the plan reduce the number of trees removed to 6 trees. A total of 16 trees will be relocated. The revised plan reduces the size of the outfield of the northeast baseball field to 175 feet. The size of the multipurpose main soccer field will be reduced to 50 X 100 yards. The plan maintains the outfield of the southwest baseball diamond to be 225 feet allowing for a multi-purpose soccer field (35 X 50 yards) in the outfield. (See complete press release regarding the revised plan)
Major improvements to the baseball and soccer fields and playgrounds will be made to Field Park. A new path, picnic shelter, splash pad and bocce ball court are also part of the Field Park Renovation Project as well as a new vehicular drop-off on the west side, bike racks, drinking fountains, benches and landscaping. As of July 10, 2007, The Park District has voluntarily halted construction on the project.
With Phase 1 of the Field Park Redevelopment Project about to begin, the Park District has been hearing many concerns regarding the current plan and the removal of trees on the site. As a result, a Special Park Board Meeting was held Thursday, July 12 at 7:30pm in the Mann School Auditorium to discuss the Site Master Plan for Field Park.
Field Park and Center was closed July 9, 2007 for construction. The Center was scheduled to re-open in mid-September 2007, and construction on the park was scheduled through the tentative completion date of November 26, 2007.
In the spring of 2006, a site master plan was developed for Field Park outlining
future park improvements. (Site
Plan Development Information). The Park District allocated funds to complete
Phase I of the Field Park project in summer 2007. A grant was awarded to the
Park District from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources in the amount
of $399,000 allowing for expansion of the redevelopment project.
Phase I of the Field Park Redevelopment Project as approved by the Park Board in May 2006 includes
major improvements to the baseball and soccer fields and
playground beginning on or shortly after July 9. A new path,
shelter area and bocce ball court are also part of
this exciting park project as well as a new vehicular drop-off
on the west side, bike racks, drinking fountains, benches
and landscaping. This expansive project is in coordination
with Elementary School District 97.
