Randolph Tot Lot

Rennovation of the Randolph Tot Lot has been completed and a grand re-opening was held in August of 2010.

Project History
Randolph Tot Lot is located on Randolph Street between Grove Avenue and Oak Park Avenue. Originally a .16 acre site, the Park District recently received transfer of the property which lies directly east of the original tot lot from the Village of Oak Park, doubling the size of the park. The property is divided by an alley. Current park amenities include playground equipment for ages 2 to 5 years.

In spring 2008, after a competitive Request for Proposals process, Altamanu, Inc. of Chicago, Illinois was hired to provide professional landscape architecture services for the master site planning of Randolph Tot Lot. After staff and focus group input, and three community meetings, the Park Board of Commissioners reviewed the Randolph Tot Lot Site Plan final draft recommendation at the Committee of the Whole Meeting on Thursday, October 1, 2009. At the Regular Park Board Meeting on Thursday, October 22, 2009 the Park Board accepted the Randolph Tot Lot Site Plan.

Altamanu, Inc. has since been contracted to complete the construction documents and assist with construction observation.

Project Summary
Park improvements include new playground equipment on the west side, and walkway across the alley, a new pocket park on the east side, benches and landscaping.

Improvements to Randolph Tot Lot are scheduled to begin in 2010 with $400,000 allocated for improvements from the Park District's Capital Improvement Budget. In March 2010, the Park District of Oak Park, through a competitive bid process, hired Clauss Brothers, Inc. of Streamwood, Illinois as the project contractor. Construction work will begin in late April 2010.

Park Availability
The entire park site will remain closed to the public during the project. Work will begin in late April 2010 and will be completed mid-summer 2010.

Project Team
The Working Group for this project is comprised of Josephine Bellalta and Phil Hutchinson of Altamanu, Inc.; Jamil Bou-Saab and Jerry Pilipowicz of Terra Engineering; and Gary Balling, Michael Grandy and Neil Adams from the Park District of Oak Park.
